Last week I attended an event at Cardiff own Porters who recently celebrated a win by being named winner of PRS for Music’s national Music Makeover Pub competition. The hidden They beat more than 200 pubs across the UK for the sought after win. The award called ‘The National Music Award includes a £10,000 sound system upgrade and expert advice from world-renowned music producer Steve Levine. I was invited by Lewis, one of the clever dicks behind the campaign and a friend of my housemates (and a lovely guy to me too).

The competition launched seven years ago. It all began to raise awareness f the important impact music can have on local businesses and to showcase those businesses that use music to its maximum effect and Porter’s truly deserves this win.

Porter’s is placed at the heart of the welsh capital and holds a wide range of events which include open mic night and theatre productions. As Stated on the PRS for Music’ website “Many of the staff are artists themselves, creating a welcoming environment for performers and customers alike. Up against stiff competition, Porter’s Bar was ultimately awarded the top prize due to the Manager’s enthusiasm.”

During the launch party we were treated to free beer (winning) and pizza cooked by the ever so talented Katrin. We were treated to some live performances by Welsh acts Sweet Baboo (BBC) and Kizzy Crawford (BBC) both of whom are members of PRS for Music, the collecting society that represents the rights of over two million songwriters, composers and music publishers across the globe through its networks. Sweet Baboo has also previously been funded by the PRS Foundation, the UK’s leading funder of new music and talent development across all genres.

All in all a fantastic night of close friends and family and music lovers. All of which were so proud the team managed to succeed. Both live performances were incredible and were greeted to thunderous applause after every song. The atmosphere was fun and lively and I cannot wait to see which acts are going to take centre stage at Porter’s.
