Last weekend I attended the International Tattoo Convention in Cardiff which was being held in the Mercure hotel. Last year it was held in Motorpoint Arena where I got my Vegeta tattoo. I was hoping to get another tattoo this year so I rushed over so I could book one early.

I entered the Hotel entrance and all you could hear was the buzzing sounds drowning out every other noise. There were tattoo artists everywhere along with cosplayers and stall merchants. Many of the tattoo artists had artwork also on sale which were all very reasonably priced to I bought one or two prints for my room but I did really want a tattoo and with many tattoo artists taking bookings on the day I was crossing my fingers that I could get one done.

Sadly I ended up with no tattoos. I did find an artist and really loved one of her pieces but on the Saturday she told me to return at 4 then she asked me to come back on the Sunday at 10. At Sunday at 10 she asked me to come back at four and once I went back she took my number to phone me at seven to see if she could squeeze me in. I received no text. So no tattoo I’m afraid.

I found that the Mercure was slightly more cramped than the Motopoint. Everyone kept bashing into each other which could’ve knocked one of the tattoo artists. Mercure was definitely not the place for a tattoo convention. I did end up buying quite a few prints though and I bought some wicked NSFW prints by Sophie Boon which I love!!

It was very unfortunate that I didn’t get my tattoo and the whole space felt incredibly cramped but my Sophie Boon prints make up for all of that.
