Pear Tree is a quaint little pub/eatery on Albany Street which is roughly a ten minute walk from my own abode. Boasting wooden carvings and some fun board games for which you can play whilst your dinner is being made, it is definitely one of my favourite places to eat in Cardiff.
Pear Tree has that family friendly atmosphere but there I never see many families coming in and out of this restaurant. The usual crowd are older people coming in droves or students checking in for a quick pint. There are some really quirky photography upstairs and downstairs of the restaurant and they usually hold a quiz night every thursday. One of their specialities include their burgers which are always succulent and tasty!! I also enjoy their cheese platter (if I do not fancy a cake) and I find that to be very filling.
My last visit to Pear Tree was before Christmas when Catrin came down. We had a Chinese the night before and fancied something a bit light but definitely carb related. But before any of that we ordered ourselves some drinks and since it was Christmas time and the whole ‘diet’ meant nothing I could treat myself to a nice diet coke while Catrin washed down a pint of cider. Afterwards we both opted for a sparkling elderflower presse which I found to be a lot more refreshing than the coke.
Now let’s talk food!!
Catrin decided to go all fancy have and engulf a Sweet Chilli Halloumi. The sandwiches contained pan fried Halloumi with fragrant sweet chilli dressing and peppery rocket. It also came with a bowl of chips, salted and vinegar’d to perfection!! All places in a baguette, the sandwich looks amazing. Whilst Catrin fancied a bit of sweetness to her meal, I fancied some very savoury and mouth watering!
My Main Meal!!
At this point in my life (back in December) I was going through a terrible Brie phase!! Most of my cheat meals (which if I’m honest, is every other meal) it would usually be a ham and Brie panini or a bacon and brie panini. Pear Tree have one of the nicest Bacon and Brie baguettes going, along with a side of chips. Complete carb overload!! The cheese was melted just right and the bacon wasn’t too salty either. It was completely and utterly perfect with enough room for something else, however we decided to be sensible and not indulge the sweet tooth.
