In early January I made a blog post about new artists that I had found recently and who I’ve repeatedly blasting into my eardrum. One of those bands were Baby Queens. Baby Queens were introduced to me by my housemate Helen and I haven’t stopped listening to them since before Christmas. We’ve been keeping a lookout on their Twitter page to see if they will ever do any gigs, since they’re Cardiff based we had high hopes they would perform in their hometown which would be easy for us both since it’s close.
Lucky for us they had a gig in The Moon Club (not to be mistaken for The Full Moon Club who were having a ‘It’s always sunny in Philadelphia’ night). The gig was free entry (winning) and started at 8 o’ clock which gave Helen and I plenty of time of catch up, have a drink and amp ourselves up to what was obviously going to be an awesome night!
There were 3 acts set to perform on the 21st, they were Project, Mike Dennis and of course Baby Queens. Each had their own unique spin on the rap genre and adding their own personal touches. Each act had a different sound which made the gig, fresh, interesting and most of all enjoyable. Performing by himself (snaps all round), Project kicked off the night by performing a few of his own songs which luckily I managed to record some snippets so you can hear his sound as well as clear obvious talent for rap, quick and yet easy to understand, you cannot ask a more from a rapper can you?
Unfortunately I cannot find any of his social media, if anyone knows any please inform me. Thank you.
Now, everyone fell in LOVE with Mike Dennis. His performance was completely unexpected and it just blew both Helen and I away. He’s a violinist and rapper and one of the most down to Earth performers I’ve ever seen. My little snippet videos doesn’t really do his music any justice at all. Everyone’s favourite song of his set was based on his days in Primary where his mother would tell him that the car was just around the corner, and then they would another corner and another corner until he would realise there was no car and they were eventually home after a long walk. That summarises his entire set.
By 10ish, Baby Queens take to the stage and Helen and I are too giddy with excitement. The band members themselves seemed so chilled and sweet and they looked they were having some serious fun on stage. Of course they were also joined by musical guests as well as performing some new material that is just as chilled as the songs Helen and I know and love. Once Red Light and Had my Heart started playing we were lost in our own little bubble, just swaying and singing along to the music. Red Light was definitely my favourite performance of the whole night and luckily I got one or two snippets of live music.
Will we go to another one of their gigs? Oh my word yes of course we will what a stupid question!!
