I’ve been meaning to go to Cafe 37 in Cardiff for a while now, ever since my University days. I wish I had went there during my University days, such a cliche but an amazing place to go. When we enter the cafe it’s already full of students, hungover and regaling tales from the previous nights ‘sesh’.
We (just assume whenever I go out for food I’m with Dan okay) sit down on a two seater table and scroll through the breakfast menu. You can get everything from Eggs Benedict to American style breakfasts which include some sugary delights such as brioche french toast covered in Fresh strawberries, bananas and maple syrup, sounds yummy doesn’t it!?
I knew I definitely wanted to try at least one pancake with some maple syrup on the side. It’s the one thing I’ve always wanted to try in Cafe 37 but I also wanted a hearty english so we had the pancake as an extra which costs about 60p. The big decision had already been made so the next decision was which breakfast to have, the choice (for me) was;
Cafe 37 Breakfast: 2 rashers of bacon, 2 sausages, 2 fried eggs, black pudding, mushrooms, baked beans, tomatoes, hash brown toast and fried bread
Eggs Benedict – smoked salmon or roast ham or bacon with poached eggs on a toasted muffin
The struggles to decide which one I wanted. After a lot of ‘no but..’ and ‘oh I fancy that but…’ I decided on the Cafe 37 breakfast, main reason being is that I’m a gluttonous pig, who loves a fry up.
Dan also had a massive dilemma: does he join me and be a gluttonous pig or long jump past the gluttonous pig and have the hangover cure, which was clearly created for those with invincible stomachs. Here is what you get with the Hangover Cure – 4 rashers of bacon, 4 sausages, 4 hashbrowns, 3 eggs, 2 black puddings, beans, tomatoes, mushroom, fried bread, 2 pieces of toast and a pancake with maple syrup.
How glorious does that sound!? I mean if I had a stomach of a dog I would demolish that no question. But I don’t have an invincible stomach, and neither does Dan. So he opted for the same as me.
The pancake was amazing!! Usually you get quite thin pancakes but this was so thick and filling (oo-er). The maple syrup went hand in hand with it too. I’m pretty sure this was the first time I’ve ever tried maple syrup and it didn’t disappoint. The pancake arrived before the rest of the feast so I thought of it as a starter, was we were finished, the main course arrived!!
Doesn’t it look amazing!!!??? But guess what? For the first time in months, I was defeated by my food. If it was on man vs food I would’ve made a fool of myself!! I’ve never been defeated by food before, I usually finish the meal, eat some more then feel sick, I remember the days when I was able to Bolognese meant for three all to myself but now, so it seems, I struggle WITH A SIMPLE ENGLISH!!!
Opinion: I WILL FINISH THAT MEAL!!! EVEN IF I PULL A GERALDINE GRANGER BEANSPROUT SCENARIO!!!
