A few weeks ago Dan and I set out for a mini getaway for the night just we could escape Cardiff. We’ve been talking since January that we would like to visit a few cities around Britain before we head off for our first holiday abroad in Ibiza in September. We decided that, for our first trip Stratford was the best option as it wasn’t too far away and also since we took the scenic route, it was a pleasant drive.
Once we arrived we quickly searched for a nice B&B to stay in as all the Travel Lodges and Premier Inn’s were booked. We found one in the centre of town which was absolutely perfect!! The bedroom was lovely and bathroom was fantastic for a B&B, the service on the other hand… I’m going to be entirely honest unless I’m reviewing a product I wasn’t impressed by, I’m going to keep this blog as positive and upbeat as possible with no negative feelings at all, no matter how tempting it would be to write some home truths so, with that in mind I shall not be commenting on the service or the attitude of whoever was in charge there. If I’m honest I dealt with him as little as possible so Dan had to bare the brunt of his attitude. Right, let’s talk about something positive shall we?
We visited the Royal Shakespeare theatre as well as the multiple tea rooms they had to offer. There was one in particular we couldn’t ignore, but what we ate there shall be reserved for the next post.
Even though it would’ve been fabulous to see a Shakespearian show I’m slightly glad we didn’t because we went and bought tickets to another show that was being performed at The Theatre Attic which was right next to ‘The Lazy Cow’ which doubles as a bar as well as an eatery. Again lovely venue but again rude, pompous service (not the bar staff, they were friendly).
Anyway…. we went to see a three man production entitled ‘The Complete Works of William Shakespeare Abridged’. Now, if you’ve been following me for a while you would know how much I love my abridged series. I watch Dragon Ball Z Abridged every day and have been watching Yu Gi Oh Abridged since I was 16 so of course, the name intrigued me. I didn’t know what to expect. Result: my cheeks were in absolute pain from laughing so much!! One of the best plays/shows I’ve ever seen. The audience took a bit of time to warm up but I think that’s because it was a very intimate setting. The actors were fantastic!!! If they ever do the play again I will definitely go see it again and take a bunch of friends with me.
We decided to do a bit of shopping on sunday as well as visit the Butterfly House (article coming soon). We visited this cute little boutique which had some beautiful trinkets. Of course I ended up buying something. I bought myself a shark tooth style necklace. Flashy but very me. The shop has the world most friendliest guard dog too. He was just adorable!!!
All in all such a lovely getaway. I can’t wait to visit again!! Next time we’ll definitely catch a show!!
